Horses by nature will use the neck to pick up their shoulders, unfortunately it does not work to carry weight. With this mare, I am teaching her to not tighten the neck when I give an aid. REMEMBER! Tightening the neck is a natural response for the horse! In this video, I explain to the horse how I want her to respond, this slow work translates to everything you do with your horse. Once it becomes a habit, we can then add energy without contraction and the horse will use their back!
